THM can be a framework, an educational tool. A template. Not a dietary restriction that one must abide by or ‘else’. Like most women, my life is busy, full, rich, too much of everything to be bound by more rules. Yet, without some sort of framework my health would deteriorate into something that leaves me with no functioning life. I need some sort of template in order to function and work towards health.

After my successful attempt at making a latte from homemade almond milk I knew that I wanted to try and thicken it with natural ingredients. I considered using oat milk and that would certainly raise the protein amount per cup but it would also add a few more carbs – not what I want. And so my AhmoCoco was born!

The more I’ve experienced the more I have learned. Since gaining life experience I have more questions and less answers. More pondering. Which, in turn, leads me to say less.

I was ‘born again’ in a Christian revival Crusade… and went from there to the AOG. I have raised my hand, repented, recommitted my life, been down to the front and accepted Christ as my Saviour more times that I can count on two hands and feet. And none of it was necessary. I was caught up in playing the game of church Christian but I was living in the fullness of the Lordship of Christ. I was a baby Christian, lapping up milk instead of growing and moving on to solid food.

I’m going to start relating a few stories from my past. It’s been a long time since I wrote much about my children. That is a deliberate and intentional plan. I’m really thankful that my past was not captured on the Internet. When John and I met, we had to get to know each other the old fashioned way. We spent time together, asking questions and going through the full range of emotions that arose from those discussions.

My weakness is the reason for taking out a Pintervention upon myself. My weakness is consumerism, coveting pretty things and hoarding, along with envy. Aside from being sin, this leads to discontent. And it’s horrible to live with. But I found that it is quite easy to replace my real life with a virtual one, and that includes collecting and drooling over things online – a virtual hoarding of sorts.

This is Falcon’s daily lesson schedule. It looks pretty heavy but he devised this schedule by himself. Falcon is a stickler for abiding by the schedule… down to the minute almost. You can imagine that this trait drives me batty. But it’s how he works best.

Last week was our first week back at school lessons. With rambo at school, Falcon and I are homeschooling… establishing a new routine. I do my best to be the wife, the mother, the friend that God wants me to be but I cannot escape the fact that God is The One who holds my future in His hands, despite what I do or don’t do. Do your best and leave God to the rest. Our hope is in Him. He is the great Healer, the restorer. He is our Saviour, Our Lord and our Master. He is more than capable. Share His goodness with your children every day. Yes train them, guide them, discipline them. But always be pointing to His goodness, His strength, His power, and His sovereignty. This is the way to teach your children that they are saved by grace, not works.
I’ve sensed the change coming. I’ve prepared for it. And now the change is here. A typical season even has a different atmosphere during the beginning, middle and end of that season. And over the last few weeks we have been in the transition between the end of one season and the beginning of another. Whilst I don’t want to hurry these last few moments of this season I also don’t want to cling to it when the change from one season to another is a necessary part of life. John and I have observed our son, continually prayed about his needs and decided that it is time. Time where his needs will be best met by going to school.
It all started when I managed to find myself on the cold, wet tiles of the shower cubicle floor. Thursday morning started like every other Thursday morning since we’ve been on holidays. A cup of hot tea, my comfy chair, laptop and my man sitting right next to me. Next minute I was butt naked and ready to greet the paramedics. After it all, I am incredibly thankful to be alive … that I live to take another breath. I am more in love with husband today than I was yesterday. I love all my children and my dad to bits. A Family Mission Statement is an effort to define the vision of your family and therefore the mission or purpose of your family.
I don’t parent from fear now. And I don’t anymore. But I did. And I see similar actions from young parents- tactics used to control, cajole, manipulate or micro manage their children. I see some parents who are so scared of letting their children make mistakes.

It’s not possible nor reasonable to train or teach every child every thing they need to learn. I don’t need to do it all. Just as God is perfecting in me His work, so He is with the children. I am not perfecting them – He is. God has begun a good work in me and He will continue it until the Day of Christ.
We are constantly bombarded with advertisements – on the Internet, TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, in the daily mailbox, etc. Advertising is designed to turn our thinking to the exact opposite of Luke 12:15. Advertising tells us that we want, need more: bigger, better, stronger.
Just like the disciples, I know Jesus. I’ve witnessed His works and seen some mighty acts of God. And, like Simon, I fall asleep all too easily. I get caught up in the busy world of children, housework, meals, bill paying and church… my life becomes full of these necessary things and I stop being as focussed on the still, quiet voice of God. I take comfort in the lives of the disciples… the ones who fell asleep instead of watching and praying. For it was through their failure that God taught them many valuable lessons and revealed Himself to them. And so it is with me. It is within my failures, my weaknesses that I see more of Him and His awesome power and righteousness.

Meaty Bible study for teens, young adults and new/young believers. This book is not devotional in nature. The concepts it deals with are meaty. But it is written in a way that even children can understand. There’s no reason not to learn doctrine when there are truth-filled, helpful books such as this. Letters to Brian & Daniel will clearly impart wisdom on the nature of God, the nature of man, the sovereignty of God, salvation, grace, faith, law and freedom.
I’m not scared anymore. And it’s beautiful. Freeing. Relaxed. And joyful.Too often I tried to influence my little ones. Tried to control them. I micro-managed them. The lessons God has revealed to me have been the only thing that keep me going at times. It is not hopeless, but it isn’t just about homeschooling- it is so much bigger than that. God wants to reach you, to teach you, to blow your mind with Himself. But sometimes, like with me, He has to get some stuff out of the way so that we will listen. As a woman of the word, I need to guard my heart and mind. I do not need to be about gossip and ‘knowing who said what to whom’. I need to be about the word and serving others. The house was in a flurry of excitement for the Big Day had arrived. Hair, makeup, food, dresses. Agh! But in the midst a beautiful young man and woman were joined before God in holy matrimony. I didn’t cry once. For the whole day. It was the most magical day and I was deliriously happy. Abigail has chosen wisely as Ian is a fine young man who is responsible and mature yet full of energy and life. He is a godly young man who has a heart to serve the Lord and both John and I are happy and proud to have him in our family. Nothing sad about that! I couldn’t stop smiling all day. Ok, I’ll be honest. I did cry just once. As they drove off from the reception I had a wave of happy-sadness. It only lasted a minute or so.

The wedding date was set. Church was booked. Ceremony time set and ministers booked. Aside from dresses, what could be left to organise? Invitations were sent out, RSVP’s started to arrive, catering was being organised and the cake was being made by a friend. Abigail found her bridal dress, which is no easy feat when one is only 160cm tall. She even found her shoes to match! Some young women take weeks or months to find the right dress and accessories but not Abi. She knew what she did and didn’t want and wouldn’t be talked into anything else. Hair and nail appointments, fittings, etc were all made and being tended to. What else needed to be done?

Confession time: I have not followed a menu plan since Abi & Mr. H announced their engagement. I have barely cooked. We’ve been making do, but it has taken a toll on our bodies. Last week I started easing back into cooking and preparing fixed lunches. I take time with these things. I am, by nature, highly unorganised. I take some time to find my groove and whilst I’m in it everything is great. However it doesn’t take much to knock me out of my groove and the engagement/wedding did just that. We decided not to use the same approach with the boys, allowing them the freedom to learn naturally, preferring to focus more heavily on training their character and life skills. We knew there would come a time when academics would need to become of greater importance- we weren’t dissing it, rather trying to balance it in a wholistic way.

I love my children! I don’t want kids. Do our words matter? Does it make a difference if we refer to our children as ‘kids’?
I recommend using a free or premium service like photobucket or flickr to host your photo’s as you can control the privacy settings. However, as much as many people don’t like or trust facebook, they can be used to securely (as secure as anything ever is on the Internet) host your flicks. Just remember that there are 22 privacy settings to date so be mindful to go through all your privacy settings.
If using wordpress or blogger you can also upload your photo’s but post them in a password protected post.
It may not be of great concern if your photo’s aren’t direct head shots of your children… it’s up for you to decide. But please, just be careful and deliberate about all that you do on the Internet.

God doesn’t want us to strive for cookie-cutter children, rather He would have us prepare our children for an individual, definable life purpose. We try to recognise and identify each children’s natural (God-given) strengths, weaknesses, abilities, talents, interests and passions. From there, we can lean on God for direction in devising a flexible plan for developing our children as whole individuals with a purpose, for His service.
A Gospel-driven, Cross-centric, Discipleship approach simply means that we’re teaching each child what he needs to know, with a view to his/her God given strengths, weaknesses, interest, passions, and talents… their natural bents. An individual’s strengths and weaknesses and interests are part of their God given make up! By identifying and encouraging their natural bents we will be launching them toward their purpose.
So began a new chapter in my homeschooling journey: that of putting God first…depending solely upon Him. I wanted Him to show me what to teach and when to each child. I was literally asking ‘What would Jesus do? What would Jesus learn? How would Jesus teach?’
I was revising my educational philosophy, my dreams, goals and ideals for the children. But deep in my heart I knew that something was missing. Oh, we did Bible study and had memory verses and all those ‘right’ things, yet something was missing. I knew that I was doing what God wanted- after all, I was doing this for Him, for His glory! Right?
When John and I were first married we hadn’t heard of home education. We knew that we wanted to have a good, solid relationship with our children and raise them in God’s ways but school was just ‘what you did’. We had goals for our family and our children. We wanted to raise godly adults using a healthy process. We wanted to develop in them a love of learning that would continue throughout their whole life. Our hearts were turned toward our children and we wanted their hearts to be turned toward us and God. The godly training of our children was a priority. We recognized that the family unit is God’s design. We wanted a close relationship with our children…we wanted to capture their heart but we didn’t know about homeschooling…
